The Lincoln University women’s basketball team took a 77-56 loss to the Rams of Jefferson on Tuesday evening. The loss moves the Lions to a 2-2 record on the season.

FIRST HALF

  • LU opened the contest ready to play, taking a 5-0 lead after tip-off with a 3-pointer by Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) and a jumper by Maya Madison Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin),
  • As the 1st quarter progressed, Jefferson gained momentum, while the Lions were plagued with turnovers and missed shots.
  • At the end of the 1st quarter, the Lions trailed, 21-12.
  • The Lions bounced back in the 2nd quarter, closing the scoring gap.
  • Forcing turnovers and converting them into points, LU tied the score 3 times and even managed to take a short lead.
  • After battling back, the Lions trailed by one, 37-36, going into halftime.

SECOND HALF

  • The 3rd and 4th quarters ruled in favor of the Jefferson Rams as they jumped ahead with a double-digit lead.
  • Lincoln continued to play hard until the final seconds of the matchup securing the last basket of the contest, but the clocked worked against them.
  • After 4 quarters, the Lions took a 77-56 loss to the Jefferson Rams.

LION LEADERS

  • Leading the Lions with 17 points and 4 steals was Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch), followed by Ciani Montgomery(Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
  • Also securing 6 rebounds were Maya Madison Walker(Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and D’Ayzha Atkinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti).

UP NEXT
The Lions will host the Wolves of Cheyney University on Friday, December 1. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm in Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
