MEAC announces 7 Feb 2023 Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 7, 2023 –Norfolk State senior guard Joe Bryant, Jr. has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Toby Nnadoziee was named Rookie of the Week, and Norfolk State graduate forward Kris Bankston was announced as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Joe Bryant (6-1, Sr., G, Norfolk, Va.)

Bryant shined in the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic against rival Hampton, scoring a season-high 29 points on 9-for-13 shooting – including a 5-for-8 effort from behind the arc and a perfect 6-for-6 day at the free throw line. He also dished out five assists to go along with three rebounds and two steals.


Toby Nnadozie (6-3, Fr., G, Baltimore, Md.)

The freshman forward recorded his first career double-digit scoring effort this past Thursday against Regent, going for 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting in 15 minutes of action.

Kris Bankston (6-9, Gr., F, Little Rock, Ark.)

 Bankston grabbed eight rebounds – four on the defensive end – in the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic against rival Hampton, while also blocking a pair of shots and recording a steal.

Other Top Performers

Zion Styles (Maryland Eastern Shore) had three steals and a block against Regent to go along with 13 points.

Kevon Voyles (Maryland Eastern Shore) dropped 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting against Regent.

Lewis Djonkam (Morgan State) dropped 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds against Delaware State, while also dishing out two assists, grabbing a steal and blocking a shot.

Kamron Hobbs (Morgan State) came off the bench to sink four 3-pointers against Delaware State in the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic, going for 24 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists.
