Earlier today the Morehouse Maroon Tigers earned a spot in the SIAC tournament semifinals with a 82-75 victory over the Fort Valley State Wildcats.
The Tigers’ efforts were spread eased by Keyshawn Jacobs and Jordan Wallace, combined for 36 points of the Morehouse bench. Wallace stepped up when it mattered most, scoring 18 of his game high 23 points in the second half, knocking down 7 of his 11 shots in the game’s second stanza. Keyshaun Jacobs also did his best work after intermission, scoring 10 of this 13 points in the second half.
“We knew they were going to be double-teaming Tyrius (Walker), so we knew we had to step up,” Wallace said in a post-game interview. “We were just doing our jobs.”
Leading scorer Tyrius Walker was doubled for most of the game and was held to 14 points on 5-11 from the field, well below his 23.3 ppg. Omar Alston also netted a double-double, racking up 11 points and corralling a game-high 14 boards in a team-high 29 minutes.
A trend the Tigers will want to clean up before their next game is securing leads; Morehouse squandered double digit leads in both the first and second halves.
Morehouse returns to action Friday afternoon at 3:15 in the semifinal round to take on the winner of Thursday’s Lane/Claflin game.
