Morehouse falls to Clayton State 83-76

The Maroon Tigers winning streak was broken by Clayton State yesterday afternoon, 83-76.

Morehouse would jump out to an early 19-8 lead in the first seven minutes of the game.  For the Lakers, Tyler Shirley would knock down pair of threes and Aaron Pitts would also add some points on the board to help close the gap on the Maroon Tigers.  At the score, 23-10, a jumper by the Lakers would spark a 9-2 run and made the score 25-19.  Wes Williams nailed a three and pushed the lead to five at 36-31. 

The Lakers were on top of the Maroon Tigers, 36-33, at the halftime break. 

Coming back from half time, Morehouse would be ready to keep their winning streak going but the Lakers had other plans as they would score the first points of the second half with a jumper by Travis Harper II. Morehouse would have difficulty scoring until the 13:35 mark when Cedric Taylor II hit a jumper making the score, 48-39. The Lakers would keep a 12 point lead over Morehouse as they would respond to Taylors basket with a three pointer of their own. The Maroon Tigers closed the gap to six at 70-64 with four minutes left but the Lakers had other plans as they would take the win.

Tyler Shirley would lead the Lakers with 20 points, and Travis Harper would end the game with 15 points.

Transfer Keshawn Pegues would finish the game in double digits as he would get 21 points. Jayden Gray would finish with 15 points.

The Maroon Tigers are back in action on November 27, as they host Miles College at 7:00pm.
