The Morgan State volleyball team battled through dealing with a depleted roster due to injuries and illness and gave crosstown rival Coppin State all it could handle in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season finale on Friday evening. However, in the end it would be Coppin State pulling out a slim 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-23) victory over Morgan State at Hill Field House.

Coppin State (21-9, 12-2 in the MEAC) would sweep the season series with the victory and earn a share of the MEAC regular season title with Howard. The Eagles’ victory would spoil Morgan’s home and season finale, as well as Senior Night for Melanie Battle, who was playing in her final home contest as a Lady Bear. Morgan State would fall to 3-25, 2-12 in the MEAC.

Ammaarah Williams tallied a match-high 10 kills and had eight digs to lead the Eagles. Hope Casel and Yaniri Miller-Green each had eight kills. Andrea Tsvetanova finished with 27 assists and Ashley Roman led the team with a match-high 10 digs.

Morgan State received eight kills from Makila Billingsley and Jourdan Page, who hit a team-high .316. Mackenzie Jeffersoncollected 23 assists and eight digs. Alyssa Sampson totaled nine digs to lead the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears finished the contest with 31 kills, 16 of them came in the opening set. Morgan State hit .182 for the match, including a set-best .238 in Set 1. Morgan State held an 8.0-3.0 advantage in blocks. Jadyn Perkins led the way with a match-high three blocks, all solos.

Coppin State hit .184 for the match and finished with 38 kills. The Eagles also had nine service aces, but committed 11 service errors.

Morgan State will now turn its attention to next week’s MEAC Volleyball Championship, hosted by Delaware State (Nov. 18-20) at Memorial Hall in Dover, DE.
