Wednesday afternoon, Norfolk State’s Terron Mallory was named the HBCU Defensive Back of the Week by the Jim Thorpe Awards.

Though the Spartans got it handed to them 42-3 by the Pirates of East Carolina, despite forcing six turnovers, Mallory had himself a game. The graduate defensive back accounted for two of the forced turnovers by the Norfolk State defense, picking off ECU quarterback Jake Garcia on consecutive possessions, both being in the vicinity of the Spartans’ goal line.

The Aeneas Williams Award Preseason Watchlist member also added four tackles, ( 3 solo) and allowed just a 25.5 passer rating when challenged.

Mallory and the Spartans return to action next week when they host Virginia State in “The Battle of the States”. Kickoff time is set at 4 p.m. EST.
