CSKA Moscow announced that the team hasn’t yet found an agreement with Mike James when it comes to terminating their contract and the guard will practice in Moscow going forward.
He will do it individually and won’t join team practices at all. Coach Dimitris Itoudis and James had a fallout during the last season and the player got suspended indefinitely.
He did, however, get a chance in the NBA after that and finished the season with the Brooklyn Nets for which he produced solid outings in 13 regular-season and nine playoff games.
James will most certainly search for another opportunity in the US and he was among the players that worked out for the LA Lakers recently. CSKA is waiting for him to find another team and complete the negotiation about his release. However, until this happens, he is still under contract for two more seasons with the Russian powerhouse.
“Currently, the club and the player have not come to an agreement on the terms of termination of the contract, so Mike, like other basketball players who have agreements with CSKA, will be at the club’s location. At the same time, James will train individually, without working with the main team,” the club’s statement read.
CSKA and the player found a legal way that permitted the player to be released and join the Nets at the end of the 2020-21 season, while also having permission to be part of the NBA free agency. However, with no solid NBA offer on the table, the two years left in his initial three-year CSKA deal are again activated.
