BALTIMORE, Md. — 
Coppin State’s volleyball team hit a season-high .394 in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-17) victory over South Carolina State in the MEAC opener for both teams on Friday night at PEC Arena.

The Eagles now stand at 10-7 overall on the season.

Hope Casel led all players with ten kills while hitting .300 and added four digs and a pair of blocks. Ammaarah Williams recorded eight kills on 12 swings without committing an error and had a pair of blocks.

Delaware State 3, Howard 1

WASHINGTON, D.C. — 
The Delaware State women’s volleyball team opened the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) part of the 2022 season with a 3-1 over the Howard Bison on Friday.

Delaware State won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-22 heading into the possible decisive third set. Howard would not go away quietly and stormed back with a commanding 25-11 win to force another set.

The outside hitting duo of Karen Cordero and Valeria Otero led the Hornets’ offensive production with a team-best 14 points each. Cordero landed a team-high 13 kills and one service ace while Otero recorded 12 kills and was in on two assisted blocks.

Norfolk State 3, Maryland Eastern Shore 2

NORFOLK, Va. — 
Norfolk State volleyball head coach Kathy Bullock has preached the importance of never giving up on a play to her team this entire summer, expecting unparalleled effort regardless of the score.

The team’s instilled tenacity finally paid off on Friday, and in euphoric fashion at that. Norfolk State overcame a two-set deficit against Maryland Eastern Shore, shocking the Hawks 3-2 for the squad’s first win of the season and a 1-0 start to conference play.

Carla Hernandez led the Spartans with 12 kills on the night, adding 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Paola Maradei protected the net with a career-best eight blocks, while Nicole Rodriguez kept the back line stable with 17 digs.

North Carolina Central 3, Morgan State 2

BALTIMORE, Md. — 
North Carolina Central freshman Tori Wilson amassed a season-high 20 points on 13 kills, four service aces, and four total blocks (2 solo, 2 assist) to lead NCCU to a dramatic 3-2 (25-14, 17-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-10) road victory over Morgan State to begin MEAC play on Friday.

Wilson’s 13 kills topped the Eagles, followed by Kamren Harper with nine kills and Autumn DeSantis with eight. Setter Vanila Pulu-Suliafu distributed 33 assists with 15 digs and six kills, while Daryn Armstrong patrolled the net for six total blocks (3 solo, 3 assist) for NCCU (2-9, 1-0 MEAC).

The conference foes split each set with NCCU saving its best for last. The Eagles recorded a match-high hitting percentage of 41.7% in the fifth and deciding set, compared to 11.8% by the Bears in the finale.
