SIAC announces basketballers of the week

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week.

For women, Tatum Hayes (Edward Waters) was named Player of the Week, while Iemyiah Harris (Miles)earned Newcomer of the Week.

For men, K.J. Doucet (Fort Valley State) was named Player of the Week, alongside teammate, Rodney Battle (Miles) who earned Newcomer of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Women’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK –  Tatum Hayes, Edward Waters

Edward Waters junior Tatum Hayes averaged 25.5 points per game, 1.0 rebound per game, and 1.0 steal per game in two games last week. She led the Tigers to a 73-66 win over Clinton College last Monday with a season-high 31 points, two steals, and two rebounds. In last Saturday’s contest against Central State, Hayes finished the game with 20 points and shot a season-best 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Iemyiah Harris, Miles | Guard  |  Junior  |  Anniston, AL



Harris scored a career-high 29 points as Miles opened its conference slate with a 67-61 win over Clark Atlanta. The sophomore guard was 9-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-12 from the 3-point arc, while making all five of her free throw attempts. She also had four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.

Men’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – K.J. Doucet, Fort Valley State|Forward  |  Sophomore  |  Austell, GA



Doucet, the SIAC Preseason Player of the Year, helped FVSU to a 70-68 win over Tuskegee University on Saturday after the Wildcats suffered a 61-59 loss by a bucket earlier in the week at University of North Georgia. Last week, Doucet averaged 17.0 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, and 2.0 assists per game. Against Tuskegee, the sophomore forward was 6-of-10 from the field, including 1-of-5 from the 3-point arc and 11-of-15 at the free-throw line. He finished with 24 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal to seal the win for the Wildcats.



NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Rodney Battle, Miles| Guard  |  Junior  |  Columbus, GA



Battle averaged 18 points, three rebounds, five assists and 1.5 steals as Miles won both of its games last week. He had 17 points, five rebounds and six assists in a win over Montevallo and followed that with a 19-point, four-assist effort against Clark Atlanta.
