ATLANTA, Ga. (March 9, 2023) – D’Aaron McCraney (Central State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Victor Scherer (Central State) earned Defensive Player of the Week.
Justin Yates (Fort Valley State) was tabbed Setter of the Week, released by the league office on Thursday.
OFFENSIVE – D’Aaron McCraney, Sophomore, Middle Hitter, Central State
CSU sophomore D’Aaron McCraney recorded 20 kills last week with a .475 hitting percentage in three matches. He recorded six kills against Ball State and another six in a win over Fort Valley State. He led the team with eight kills in a victory over Morehouse.
DEFENSIVE – Victor Scherer, Sophomore, Libero, Central State
Central State libero Victor Scherer recorded 25 digs which included 18 digs over Fort Valley State while averaging 5 digs per set in three matches last week. Scherer helped CSU earn three set victories over Fort Valley State and Morehouse and currently leads all of NCAA with 3.56 digs per set.
SETTER – Justin Yates, Sophomore, Setter, Fort Valley State
In two matches, Yates totaled 55 assists, 11 digs, four kills, three block assists, three block assists, and an ace in FVSU’s 1-1 weekend. He had 26 assists, five digs, two kills against Central State. In a win over Kentucky State, he collected 29 assists, six digs, three block assists, two kills, and an ace. The sophomore setter is currently ranked Top 30 in the NCAA for assist per set averaging 8.83 per set.
