SIAC announces week 9 Volleyball Honourees

ATLANTA, Ga. (November 1, 2022) – Fatima Ramirez (Edward Waters) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the WeekwhileJayla Neely (Allen) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Kayla Chambliss (Allen)was also tabbed Setter of the Week alongsideMaliyah Spencer (Allen) who earned Newcomer of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Fatima Ramirez, Edward Waters| Outside/Right Side Hitter | Sophomore | Belmopan, Belize

Sophomore outside hitter Fatima Ramirez helped Edward Waters to a 2-0 record last week defeating conference foes Allen University and Savannah State University. Ramirez led the Tigers’ offense with 30 total kills with only five errors, 18 digs, and two aces.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jayla Neely, Allen |Libero | Freshman | Rock Hill, S.C.

Allen libero Jayla Neely led them with 48 digs on the week along with 13 assists over four matches helping Allen go 2-2. Neely’s weekly high for digs was 16 in the win over Paine College.

SETTER OF THE WEEK – Kayla Chambliss, Allen|Setter | Junior | Tallahassee, FL

Chambliss led Allen with 98 assists on the week including two matches with 38 and 42 assists respectively. She also added 9 kills, 7 aces, and 40 digs on the week over four matches helping Allen go 2-2.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Maliyah Spencer, Allen| Outside Hitter | Freshman | Surprise, AZ

Freshman hitter Maliyah Spencer led the Jackets to a 2-2 week by posting 35 kills over four matches along with 3 blocks and 7 digs. She had a high of 18 kills in the win over Paine hitting .333.
