SIAC Basketball Week 6 Players Honourees

ATLANTA, Ga. (January 11, 2022) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week.
 
For women, Le’Andrea Gillis (Savannah State) was named Player of the Week, while Corriana Evans (Clark Atlanta) earned Newcomer of the Week.
 
For men, Chris Martin (Clark Atlanta) was named Player of the Week, while Jaden Gray (Spring Hill) earned Newcomer of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Women’s Basketball
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Le’Andrea Gillis, Savannah State Guard  |  Junior  |  Adrien, Ga.

Le’Andrea Gillis led the Lady Tigers to their 10th consecutive victory of the season on Saturday’s 75-54 win over Lane-with a season-high 27 points. The redshirt junior leads Savannah State in scoring this season, averaging 15.0 points a game, shooting 47 percent from the field.

 


NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Corriana Evans, Clark Atlanta , Guard/Forward  |  Sophomore  |  Griffin, Ga.

Clark Atlanta’s Corriana Evans has averaged 18.3 points per game and 14 rebounds in three games over the winter break. Evans, a sophomore from Griffin, Ga., had 17 points and 15 rebounds in CAU’s loss to Tuskegee. Against Spring Hill, she had eight points and ten rebounds in CAU’s 69-64 victory; and then she erupted for 30 points and 17 rebounds in the Lady Panthers’ victory over Fort Valley State. Evans is averaging 12.9 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game for the CAU this season.

Men’s Basketball
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Chris Martin, Clark Atlanta , Guard |  Junior   |  Charlotte, NC


 
Clark Atlanta’s Chris Martin averaged 30 points per game in three games over the winter break. Martin, a junior from Charlotte, N.C. had 26 points against Tuskegee, 33 points in the Panthers’ 88-83 win over Spring Hill, and then 31 points in CAU’s 79-74 victory over Fort Valley State. Martin leads the Panthers in scoring with 21.1 points per game and has scored in double figures every game but one so far this season.

 


NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Jaden Gray, Spring Hill, Guard   |  Redshirt Freshman  |  Tampa, FL


 
Jaden was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Badgers in two SIAC contests this week. 

Against Savannah State, Gray posted 18 points and nine rebounds. Against Tuskegee, the freshman guard collected 19 points and eight rebounds. He is averaging 12.2 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game in an average of 33 minutes per contest with 10 starts in 12 games played.
