HOUSTON, Texas, – Texas Southern will face their second and final Southland Conference opponent of the season when they travel to face Houston Baptist on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
Texas Southern dropped a 77-6 decision against the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns during their last outing. Texas Southern put together a promising offensive drive on its second possession thanks to several long passes by DeAndre Johnson.
TSU finished with 236 total yards as Johnson passed for 151 yards on 16-of-30 passing. Donnie Corley led TSU with six receptions for 62 yards while Tylor Cook rushed for 31 yards on six carries. Freshman Jadrian McGraw led TSU with eight tackles defensively.
Houston Baptist raced past Northwestern State with a 48-21 win last week. HBU racked up 532 yards of offense, 266 on the ground and 266 through the air, while Northwestern State completed 447 yards — 301 passing and 146 rushing. The Huskies won the turnover battle with three interceptions to Northwestern State’s one.
This marks the third match-up in series history between both schools with HBU holding a 2-0 series lead. The series began in 2016 and has been played at both team’s respective stadiums.
DeAndre Johnson has completed 58-of-97 passes for 741 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions for Texas Southern. Tren’Davian Dickson has made 17 catches for 296 yards and three touchdowns, Donnie Corley has 13 catches for 154 yards and Chris Long has seven receptions for 122 yards and a pair of touchdowns. LaDarius Owens is the Tigers’ leading rusher with 195 yards and two touchdowns heading into week five of the season.
