NBA hands down suspensions for Pistons-Timberwolves fracas

Courtesy of Fox Sports Detroit Pistons big Isaiah Stewart was suspended for two games and four other players from the Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves drew one-game suspensions for their roles in an on-court altercation between the teams earlier this week, the NBA said Tuesday. Stewart got two games “based in part on his repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts,” the league said. The NBA handed the one-game bans to Detroit’s Ron Holland II and Marcus Sasseralong with Minnesota’s Naz Reid and Donte DiVincenzo. Memphis Grizzlies part ways with head coach Taylor Jenkins

Courtesy of Fox Sports The Memphis Grizzlies announced Friday that they’ve “parted ways” with head coach Taylor Jenkins after five-plus seasons. “I’m genuinely appreciative of Taylor’s contributions to this team and this city over the past six seasons. This was a difficult decision, given the consistent and tangible development of our players and overall success under Taylor’s leadership. I wish Taylor the very best moving forward,” Grizzlies president and general manager Zach Kleiman said in a statement. An interim head coach has not been named. Gary Payton II is out indefinitely with thumb injury

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II has suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb. Charania adds that Payton II will be out for an indefinite amount of time.  Payton II is an active, engaged, and effective defender who is a vital part of the Warriors rotation, with his impact far greater than the 6.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists he averages per game. Over the last month he was averaging 20.9 minutes and 11.5 points per contest.

Joel Embiid ruled out for remainder of season due to knee issues

More bad news In a season rife with disappointment, Philadelphia 76ers center center Joel Embiid will miss the remainder of the season. Sunday the Toronto Raptors defeated the Phoenix Suns 127-109, handing the Suns their eighth loss in their last ten games. Kevin Durant was unusually quiet, scoring just 15 points and grabbing 4 rebounds, however, the defense of Scottie Barnes had a lot to do with Durant’s tough night at the office, as he harassed the normally efficient Durant into just 5-15 from the floor.
