Jackson State picked to finish third in SWAC East, five Tigers named Preseason All-SWAC

Courtesy of Jackson State Athletics The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) released the 2024 Preseason Football Teams on Tuesday morning as part of Media Day activities and Jackson State placed five players on the two teams combined. Evan Henry returns as a First Team selection after earning Second Team honors last season after helping the offense average 161.6 yards per game running 227.7 yards passing. He helped amass 389.4 yards per game offensively. He was joined by Fabian McCray who hauled in 41 receptions for 584 yards and four touchdowns including a season-long 47-yard reception. He…

An image of a new colorway for the next signature shoe for Ja Morant, the Ja 2.  The new color sports a magenta leather upper underlaid with a mesh of the same hue. The ribbed side panel is home to a teal Swoosh; reportedly, the Swooshes on the left and right shoe will featured a different hue. Grambling’s Myles Crawley named SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of The Year

Courtesy of Curtis Ford, Grambling Athletics Grambling State University quarterback Myles Crawley was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Preseason Player of the Year, announced by the conference on Tuesday morning. Crawley solidified himself as one of the best up and coming quarterbacks in the SWAC during the 2023 campaign. Crawley threw for 2,303 yards with a 16 touchdowns last season. He was the first Grambling State quarterback to throw for at least 2,000 yards since Devante Kincaid in 2017. PE Corner: North Carolina Football unveils PE Air Jordan 3 cleats

North Carolina football unveiled a Player Exclusive edition of an Air Jordan 3 cleat.  Borrowing its aesthetic from the “UNC” Air Jordan 3, they sport a white leather upper with elephant print overlays at the toe and wrapping the heel. University blue shows up on the three midfoot eyelets, Jumpman on the tongue, and likely the branding on the rear heel.  Underneath the aforementioned upper resides a university blue moderator plate.  At this time there is no indication of an impending retail release.  Images via uncfootball

Kobe Bryant’s father, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant passes at age 69

Former NBA player Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, the father of Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant, has died. He was 69. An official cause of Bryant’s death was not announced as of Tuesday morning. La Salle University, where Bryant played and coached, said in a statement that Bryant “was a beloved member of the Explorer family and will be dearly missed.” Longtime Philadelphia-area basketball coach Fran Dunphy, who currently is the head coach at La Salle, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Bryant recently suffered a massive stroke. Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard has withdrawn from the US Olympic team,  USA Basketball announced Wednesday morning, per The Athletic’’s Shams Charania.  Leonard has been dealing with chronic soreness and inflammation for the past few months.
