Houston Rockets’ all-star guard James Harden is square in Adidas’ crosshairs. The brand has reportedly offered Harden a 13 year deal worth $200 million in a major effort to pry him away from Nike. Harden’s deal with Nike expired recently and the brand has until the end of next week to match Adidas’ offer. Adidas spokesman Michael Ehrlich had this to say in s statement: “We’ve invited James Harden to join Adidas. We’re a brand of creators and he truly embodies what that means with his approach to the game, his…

Conversation with OSD’s Sean “Paper Chasr” Williams on SOLEcial Studies

With another session of their wildly successful SOLEcial Studies program on the horizon, I sat down with one of the architects of the program, Sean”Paper Chasr” Williams. What prompted SOLEcial studies to be birthed and how did it happen? SOLEcial Studies was born out of a conversation with PENSOLE’s founder D’wayne Edwards back in 2010. He showed me and Dee that the content and discussions we have on the show actually had an educational value to them, and that we actually “teaching” people with each lengthy discussion we had. He…

Nike Sportswear “Sharpie Pack”

In 1997 the NBA told Penny Hardaway that his  Foamposite Ones did not meet the uniform standards the league had in place at the time. So the young superstar solved the problem by taking a sharpie to his shoe and blacking out the “valleys” on the shoe. Penny was spotted wearing them during this past NBA All-Star weekend and now they will be available, as they are partnered up with an Orlando Magic inspired Penny VI as part of the “Sharpie Pack”.  The will release July 4 for $500. Basketball Fans, Pippen’s Back: Scottie Pippen’s Sneaker Legacy

I’ll leave all of the rave reviews and technical aspects of this shoe to the others, but I was shocked to see that Nike had decided to add a new (not a retro) sneaker to the Pippen line. Considering the fact that he hadn’t actually played an official NBA game in 11 years (those NBA All-Star Weekend Shootout appearances don’t count!!), it’s still refreshing for a fan like myself–who came of age during the heyday of the championship years of the 90’s Bulls–to be treated to a semblance of the 90’s/early 00’s when we could…
