Albany State Basketball splits Fort Valley State

For women, Diamond Jones (Fort Valley State) was named Player of the Week, while Nadia Thorman-McKey (Tuskegee) earned Newcomer of the Week. It was a rough day at the Arena at West Campus for the Albany State Golden Rams women’s basketball team, as the Tigers of Benedict took it to the Golden Rams 81-60. Albany State got off to a strong start, taking a 12-4 lead on Chelsea Hill’s jumper with 3:5 left in the quarter. The Albany State women’s basketball team got it done against Edward Waters, defeating the Tigers 54-49 Saturday afternoon. The two teams came out of the gate cold in the first quarter, shooting a combined 7-29 , 4-15 for ASU and 3-14 for EWC, in an opening period that saw a combined 16 points, with the Golden Rams managing to secure a 10-6 lead after the opening frame. Albany State was unable to hold off a second half surge from Miles as the Golden Rams fell to the Golden Bears 62-59. MIles came out strong, taking an early 7-0 lead , Albany State woudl battle back to take a brief lead at 12-11 on a Terin Wofford jumpshot.
