Southern defeats Grambling 38-28 in Bayou Classic

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – Two long pass plays in the third quarter proved to be the difference as the Grambling State University football team nearly rallied from an 18-point deficit as the Tigers saw its season come to an end with a 38-28 loss to rival Southern during the 45th Annual Bayou Classic in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. UAPB advances to SWAC Title game with victory over Southern

One half of the matchup of the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship has been set. Arkansas-Pine Bluff advanced by defeating Southern 71-65 earlier this evening. UAPB enjoyed a 19-11 lead before Southern blitzed them with a 19-4 run to put the Jaguars up 30-23. Southern would halve their advantage shaved to three,30-27, right before the break when Charles Jackson was fouled on a three-point attempt and cashed in all three free throws. Southern rallies to defeat Jackson State in SWAC quarters

Eddie Reese had 21 big points for the Southern Jaguars but it was his last point that proved to be the most critical. He sank the game-winning free throw with one second to go in the game, as the Jaguars defeated Jackson State 62-60 in the quarterfinals of the SWAC basketball conference tournament.
