Toriano Morgan Reportedly Had No Plans to Leave Edward Waters

Former Edward Waters head coach Toriano Morgan will be in his familiar space on the sideline on Saturday afternoon.  Coach Morgan, who in a stunning development earlier this week, abruptly resigned from his role at Edward Waters, will return to his alma mater, Tennessee State and accept a position on Reggie Barlow’s staff.  However, as much as this is a home run addition to TSU’s coaching ranks, leaving EWU may not have been in Morgan’s immediate plans.  According to Rocky Miller and Johnnie Cole of HBCU Coaches Corner, they spoke…

Tennessee State Places Six on Conference Watch Lists Ahead of 2025 Season

The OVC-Big South Football Association released its preseason watch lists for offense and defense. Amongst the student athletes to make the cut were six Tigers. Tight end Jason Hoath, who has been key in blocking and has shown ability in the passing game was named to the Association’s offensive players to watch list.  Joining him is offensive lineman Anthony Smith. Shannon Harris on the way to Tennessee State?

According to James Larson of Pro Football Newsroom, D.C. Defenders head coach Shannon Harris is now listed as the Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach at Tennessee State University.  A trip to the football coaches page on the Tennessee State athletics website does reveal that Harris is indeed listed as the Tigers’ Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. Reggie Barlow to accept Tennessee State head coach job

According to multiple outlets, Reggie Barlow informed the DC Defenders just next week before the season kicks off, that he is departing the team, to reportedly accept the head coaching vacancy at Tennessee State. In a Friday afternoon post to his X account Tennessee State-wise receiver Chavalier Brenson, or as he is better known. “ Karate”, informed the world that he was the latest Tiger to hit the transfer portal.  Following his freshman campaign at Ball State, Brenson transferred to Tennessee State. Tennessee State’s Sanders Ellis hits the transfer portal (again)

According to Pete Nakos of On3sports, Tennessee State freshman linebacker Sanders Ellis has entered the transfer portal.  This is the second time this offseason season that Ellis has entered the transfer portal. He initially entered the portal In December, shortly after Tennessee State was defeated 41-27 by Montana in the FCS Playoffs.  The Nashville, TN native paid immediate dividends once injuries thrust him into the starting lineup, recording 86 total tackles( 59 solos, 27 assisted), 15.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 2 passes defensed, and 3 fumble recoveries.
