Tennessee State falls short in 91-87 loss to Charleston Southern

Tennessee State came up short 91-87 in a home matchup against Charleston Southern Wednesday evening.

It looked like Charleston Southern was going to ran off with the contest, taking a 40-18 lead on Cheikh Faye’s three-pointer with 6:12 left in the first half. Tennessee State showed resolve, going on a 17-0 run to shave the deficit down to five at 40-35. The Buccaneers responded, pushing the lead to 12 on Claudell Harris Jr’s three pointer with 0:38 left in the half. The Tigers scored four points over that last 38 seconds to trim the lead to 50-42 at halftime.

Falling behind by much as 12 points in the second half, and spent the entirety of the contest’s closing 20 minutes playing uphill, drawing as close as two points o two separate occasions- at 83-81 on a pair of free throws from JR Clay with 1:56 left in the game and at 85-83 on a Christian Brown free throw with 1:25 left in the second half. TSU was not able to get over the hump, coming up four points short at 91-87.

Christian Brown led three Tigers in double figures and all game scorers, with 26 points, and adding 9 rebounds. Jr. Clay put in 19 points and Adong Makuoi contributed 16 points and grabbed 7 boards. TSU was able to force 18 Buccaneers turnovers, which turned into 22 points.

Up next for the Tigers is a nome matchup against Bryan Saturday. Tip off for that contest is 2pm CST.
