Texas Southern women’s track takes 15 top-10 finishes at Pelican Relays

BATON ROUGE, La. – The mile relay claimed gold as the TSU women’s track & field team had 15 top-10 finishes at the Pelican Relays on Saturday at Southern University.

Lillie Burnett finished fourth in the 200 in a time of 24.61 followed by Bayli George (25.3) in eighth and Shelby Brooks (25.58) in 10th.

Jasmine Walker ran a personal best and moved to 10th in the SWAC after a time of 2:18.41 in the 800 en route to a third-place finish while Kayla Jenkins (1:07.21) placed sixth. Lyriq Ray ran a personal best in the 400-meter dash as she placed eighth.

The mile relay of Burnett, Tardranique London, George and Brooks won its event in a time of 3:47.59

Ashlyn Bruce finished seventh in the long jump (17-6) while Alexis Wilson placed second in the triple jump. Phylan Perkins moved up to fourth in the SWAC in the shot out after a third-place throw of 44-4. She placed fifth in the discus to move up to sixth in the SWAC after a mark of 130-11.

One day after posting a SWAC-best 171-8 in Houston, Perkins threw 168-8 in the hammer to place second. Skyla Faux posted a throw of 151-9 in the event to place sixth.

TSU is back in action at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight on April 22 at Rice University.
