Thomas University downs Albany State, 14-3

After Albany State took the momentum in the home third inning, Thomas University used key hits for a seven-run fifth inning to break open the baseball game and went on for a 14-3 win on the Wednesday evening.

Following Nighthawks runs in each of the first three at bats for a 7-0 lead, the Golden Rams (4-3) went to work. With the first three Golden Rams reaching base in the home third, Luke Addison lofted a sacrifice fly to left field. Three batters later, Hill Corley sliced a two-run single to pull within 7-3. Thomas took advantage of drawing four walks and three run-scoring hits for the game-deciding seven scores in the top of the fifth, while ASU managed only two singles and three walks over the final three at bats.

Austin Roberts led the ASU offense with a 2 for 4 game. Corley lined his 2-run single as the biggest hit. Jonathan Logsdon and Zane Ross both singled, scored one run and drew a walk. Rutigliano singled in his only at bat with one run and was hit by a pitch.

Thomas registered identical three runs on five hits in each of the first two frames for a 6-0 lead before adding a single tally in the third.

Rutigliano started the run-scoring ASU inning in the third before both Logsdon and Ross registered back-to-back singles to load the bases. Addison lofted a sac fly and Corley a two-single to cut the game to 7-3.

ASU remains at home where it will open a 3-game series on Friday evening (Feb. 23) when Miles College visits Albany. First pitch will be 5:00 p.m.
