The Tuskegee Golden Tigers earned a hard fought victory at Wildcat Stadium 17-6.
It was the home team Fort Valley that got the scoring going late in the opening quarter when Abisai Gutierrez knocked through a 33-yard field goal to put the Wildcats up 3-0. Tuskegee took the lead on their first possession of the second quarter when Ahmad Deramus connected with Kendall Calvin for a four yard touchdown pass. It was Calvin’s first touchdown of the season. The extra point put the Golden Tigers up 7-3, where the score would remain headed into halftime.
Tuskegee would commence the second half, needing only six plays to cover seventy yards and scoring on Deramus’ second touchdown of the day, an 11-yard toss to Justice Owens. The lead would be stretched to 11, at 14-3 with the converted extra point. The last points of the game for Tuskegee came on Huskic Arnes’ second field goal of the day, this one from 31-yards out. Abisai Gutierrez’s 28-yard field goal later in the quarter pulled Wildcats to within 11 at 17-6 where the final score would end up.
With the win, Tuskegee improves to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC. Next week is homecoming for the Golden Tigers where they will host Kentucky State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CST. Next week is also homecoming for Fort Valley. The Wildcats will host the Lenior-Rhyne Bears. Kickoff time is 2:o p.m. EST at Wildcat Stadium.
