Albany State takes care of Miles, 20-3

The Albany State Golden Rams continued their winning ways with a dominating 20-3 win over the Golden Bears of Miles College Saturday at the Albany state University Coleseum.

It was Golden Ram defense that got the scoring first when Jaree Turner picked off a Jalen Parker pass and took it 40 yards to the house to give Albany State a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. On their first drive of the second quarter, Miles got their first, and only points of the day via a 44-yard field goal off the foot of Jackson Spradlin to make the score 7-3. Later in the period, Albany State pushed their lead to 14-3 at the end of a 12-play.64 yard drive that concluded with a 2-yard scoring run from Marcuis Fulks.

ASU only needed one play on their first drive of the second half to extend their lead to 20-3, when Dionte Bonneau connected with Joe’Vantae shorter on a 62-yard touchdown pass. The remainder of the contest was a puntfest, with the Golden Bears offense never advancing further than their own 48-yard line. The Golden Ram defense held miles to just 153 yards of total offense, sacking Golden Bear quarterbacks 4 times and recording 11 tackles for losses. Reigning SIAC Player of the Year Stephan Pierre led Albany State with 15 tackles (11 solo) ,1.5 tackles for losses and 0.5 sacks.

Dionte Bonneau completed 10 of his 17 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked, which was the first Albany State has allowed this season. Kamran Ward led the ASU running attack with 52 yards on 14 carries. Team-leading rusher Marcuis Fulks ran for 47 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, and was more effective than in last week’s outing against Clark Atlanta.

Miles returns to action next week when they travel to Columbia, SC to face the undefeated Tigers of Benedict College.
