Week 4 SIAC Women’s and Men’s Basketball Honorees

From the SIAC:

 The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week.

For women, Kayla Simmons (Lane) was named Player of the Week, while Corriana Evans (Clark Atlanta) earned Newcomer of the Week.

For men, Tajh Green (Benedict) was named Player of the Week, while Shamon Mosley (Kentucky State) earned Newcomer of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Women’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kayla Simmons, Lane
Power Forward/Center  |  Junior  |  Brandon, MS

Simmons helped Lane to a 2-1 record for the week while averaging a double-double (14.7 points and 11.7 rebounds). The junior from Brandon, Miss. had 19 points and 18 rebounds in a 69-47 win over Allen University.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Corriana Evans, Clark Atlanta
Guard/Forward  |  Sophomore  |  Griffin, Ga.

Clark Atlanta’s Corriana Evans averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in Clark Atlanta’s two games last week. Evans, a sophomore from Griffin, Ga. in her first season at CAU, had 11 points and eight rebounds in CAU’s 68-61 win over Kentucky State on Nov. 29 and then put up 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Lady Panthers’ 71-58 loss to Lane on Dec. 4. Evans has scored in double figures in three straight games.

Men’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tajh Green, Benedict
Forward  |  Senior   |  Rome, Ga.

Green helped the Tigers to a pair of wins on the week. Scored 24 points in win over Spring Hill, then had 17 points in win over Claflin. He shot 60 percent from the floor, making 15 of his 25 shot attempts. The senior forward also added five rebounds per game, three assists, and three blocked shots on the week.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Shamon Mosley, Kentucky State
Guard   |  Junior  |  Bristol, FL

Last week, Mosley earned 25 points, seven rebounds, and two steals against Clark Atlanta.
