Willie SImmons resigns from FAMU to take position at Duke

Florida A&M head coach Willie Simmons resigned today to accept a position as running backs coach on Manny Diaz’s staff at Duke. Ending much speculation about his future that was initially reported by Offscript late last week.

The announcement was officially made by FAMU Director of Athletics Tiffani-Dawn Sykes

“At 2p,m. today Coach Simmons submitted and I accepted his resignation and I accepted his resignation letter as he has chosen to pursue another opportunity. I would like to thank Coach Willie Simmons for his hard work to elevate our football program. What he did in his time here was nothing short of remarkable.”

Simmons recorded a 45-12 overall and band 32-5 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in his six seasons on highest of seven hills.

James Colzie has been named interim coach. Coach Colzie served Coach Simmons’ staff as associate head coach and cornerback coach.
