Xavier University of Louisiana’s Seviuhn Turner is the Red River Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week in men’s basketball for Dec. 9-15.
The RRAC announced Monday the award, Turner’s first. This is his first XULA season.
Turner — a 6-foot-5 junior guard/forward from Baton Rouge, La., and a Madison Prep and Baton Rouge Community College alum — scored 30 points Thursday in XULA’s 72-54 home victoryagainst Texas A&M-Texarkana. Turner became the third XULA player in the 13-year history of the Convocation Center to score 30 points in one game. Turner became the sixth XULA player and the first since 2015 to make 15 free throws in a game. In the first half Turner scored 19 points with 9-of-9 free throws.
Turner also shut down the Eagles’ Deovaunta Williams, who entered with a league-leading 60.9 percent on 3s (14-of-23) but was 1-of-7 against XULA.
It’s the third time in four weeks that XULA won this award. Lance Williams earned it for Nov. 18-24, and James Weathers did it for Nov. 25-Dec. 1. Like Turner, Williams and Weathers are Baton Rouge residents.
