Box Score 1NEW ORLEANS – The Tennessee State men’s tennis team picked up two wins this week as it took down New Orleans 5-2, followed by a 6-1 win over Nicholls to start its spring break trip. The two straight wins over the Southland Conference opponents move TSU to 3-10 on the year.
TSU 5, UNO 2
The Tigers started the match against UNO by taking the doubles point after picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The doubles duo of Jonasz Dziopak / Daniel Caraballo logged a 7-5 victory in the first spot, while Taj Hibbert / Rohan Loubser downed their opponent to secure a 6-1 win at line three.
TSU’s hot start poured over into singles play as the Tigers tallied wins at 3-6 to earn the 5-2 win. After falling 3-6 in his first set, Hibbert picked to two straight wins at No. 3 6-3, 6-4 to win his match. Diego Britt-Alvarez also saw his match go the distance in the four spots as he won 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Loubser secured a 7-5, 6-1 victory at line six, while Nil Moinet closed things out in the six spots to earn a 7-5, 6-0 win.
TSU 6, Nicholls 1
After taking down its first Southland opponent, TSU traveled to Nicholls and picked up its second straight win with a 6-1 victory over the Colonels.
TSU once again took the doubles point after winning at lines two and three. Hibbert / Loubser were off the board first as they won 6-2 at No. 3, while Britt-Alvarez / Moinet secured a 7-5 win at No. 2.
The Tigers rolled through the singles of portion play, winning at lines 1-5. Britt-Alvarez was the first Tiger to secure a win as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the four spot. Hibbert won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, while Caraballo had no problem at line one, winning 6-3, 6-4. Dziopak won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2, followed by Moinet who closed the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
TSU will continue its spring break trip to the south with a matchup at Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon.
