Albany State Tennis finishes 8th at HBCU Tennis Championship

The Albany State tennis team took part in and finished 8th the 2022 HBCU National Tennis Championship that were held September 15-18 in Atlanta, GA. Albany State’s Natalya Ogunwale and Asia Raulerson advanced to the Women’s B Doubles Championship where they were defected 6-1 by Xavier University of Louisiana’s duo of Tianna Dixon and McKenna Wheatley. Albany State Tennis finishes 3rd in SIAC

Despite not winning the conference title this weekend, the team was able to defeat the Panthers of Clark-Atlanta University in the consolation at the SIAC Tournament, 5-2. Asia Raulerson, Bianca Leao, Carla Sorroche and Sumana Panauganti were all victorious in their singles matches. In doubles competition, Leao and Panauganti claimed their match 6-2 ; Doylisha Copeland and Allyah Williams were also victors, winning match by a 6-2 count as well. With the win the Golden Rams complete the 2022 season with an 18-6 record.

Albany State comes up short in SIAC Semis

The Albany State tennis team will not be playing for a shot at the conference title, as they were defeated in their semi-final match with the Tigers of Savannah State, 5-2. In singles competition, Bianca Leao and Sumana Panauganti claimed victory in their matches, while in doubles play, Leao and Panaugouti won their match, (6-3). Up next for the now 17-6 Golden Rams is the consolation game against Clark-Atlanta. That and the title match between no.1 Benedict and no.3 Savannah State are both scheduled for 10 AM EST.

The SIAC Round-Up concluded today with the Albany State women’s tennis team going 4-3 over the course of the three-day event. Day 1 Albany State was dominant in a 7-0 victory over Fort Valley State. The Albany State tennis team took care of business , 7-0, Saturday against the Wildcats of Fort Valley State. In singles competition Doylisha Copeland, Allyah Williams, Asia Raulerson, Sumana Panauganti, Carla Sorroche all claimed victory in their respective matches. Johnson C. Smith named to ITA All-Academic team with six players claiming All-Academic Scholar-Athletes honors

Smith University women’s tennis team was named to the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team and six Golden Bulls earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, the ITA announced Thursday. This year the Intercollegiate Tennis Association saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes. All-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes.  JCSU women’s team who earned All-Academic honors individual academic accolades are Alisa Stevenson, Aleena Oakley, Aria Springfield, Cierra Turner, Jada Strickland and Halle Parker.
