Southern University has turned to one of its own to lead its tennis programs into the future, announcing the hiring of Darnesha Moore as the new head coach of the Jaguars’ men’s and women’s tennis teams.
Moore returns to Baton Rouge after a decorated playing career at Southern, where she established herself as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in program history. During her time as a Jaguar, she earned SWAC Most Valuable Player honors and was named Southern University’s Women’s Athlete of the Year, helping cement her legacy as one of the school’s all-time greats.
Now, Moore returns to her alma mater with the responsibility of building upon Southern’s championship tradition while developing the next generation of Jaguar tennis student-athletes.
“Welcome home” was the message from Southern Athletics as the university officially introduced Moore, emphasizing both her deep ties to the program and her vision for the future.
Her hiring represents a homecoming that brings together a proven leader and a program with a history of success in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. As a former standout who understands the culture and expectations at Southern, Moore will look to continue the Jaguars’ pursuit of conference championships while mentoring student-athletes on and off the court.
With a championship pedigree as both a player and leader, Moore’s return marks the beginning of a new era for Southern men’s and women’s tennis.
