Atlanta, Ga. — The Albany State men’s basketball team demonstrated resilience and determination but ultimately fell short in an 82-67 loss to Morehouse College in SIAC action on Thursday night.

The Maroon Tigers took control from the start, winning the tip-off and scoring the first basket of the game. Albany State quickly responded, evening the score and setting the stage for an early back-and-forth contest. Both teams exchanged possessions during the opening stretch as the Golden Rams sought to establish their rhythm against the defensive pressure from the Maroon Tigers.

Midway through the first half, Morehouse began to pull away, taking advantage of second-chance opportunities and making timely shots to extend their lead. Despite Albany State’s efforts, the Maroon Tigers held a 39-27 advantage at halftime.

After the break, the Golden Rams surged with renewed energy on both ends of the court. Albany State chipped away at the deficit, narrowing the Morehouse lead to just six points, momentarily shifting the momentum in their favor. However, the Maroon Tigers responded with crucial baskets down the stretch to maintain control of the game.

In the second half, Albany State matched Morehouse’s intensity, scoring 40 points compared to the Tigers’ 43. Despite this, the early deficit proved too significant to overcome.

Jeremiah Edwards led Albany State with a game-high 24 points, shooting an efficient 9-of-15 from the field, along with five rebounds and three steals. Shakur Poteat contributed 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Cameron Evans added eight points and a team-high seven assists. Christian Gary made a strong impact inside with 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Golden Rams shot 41.0 percent from the field and outrebounded Morehouse 35-26, but struggled from beyond the arc, finishing 6-of-25 in three-point attempts.
