Titans to Induct Chris Johnson Into Ring of Honor During Season Opener

The Tennessee Titans will honor one of the most electrifying players in franchise history this fall, announcing that former running back Chris Johnson will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor during its season opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 13.

Johnson, affectionately known as “CJ2K,” becomes the latest Titans legend to receive one of the organization’s highest honors after a career that redefined speed at the running back position.

Selected 24th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft out of East Carolina, Johnson wasted little time establishing himself as one of the league’s premier offensive weapons. His breakout came in 2009 when he rushed for 2,006 yards, becoming just the sixth player in NFL history to eclipse the 2,000-yard mark in a single season.

That unforgettable campaign earned Johnson NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors and cemented his place among the greatest running backs of his era.

Johnson spent six seasons with the Titans from 2008 to 2013, earning three Pro Bowl selections and a First-Team All-Pro nod. During his tenure in Tennessee, he rushed for 7,965 yards and 50 touchdowns while adding 1,712 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns.

His combination of elite speed, home-run ability, and game-changing explosiveness made him one of the NFL’s most dangerous offensive players. Johnson still holds the NFL Scouting Combine record with a blazing 4.24-second 40-yard dash, a mark that has stood since 2008.

The Ring of Honor induction recognizes not only Johnson’s statistical accomplishments but also his lasting impact on the Titans franchise and the NFL. He joins an exclusive group of Titans and Oilers legends whose contributions have helped shape the organization’s history.

Fans in attendance at Nissan Stadium will witness the ceremony during halftime of Tennessee’s Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets, providing a fitting stage to celebrate one of the franchise’s all-time greats.
