NEW ORLEANS, La. __ Alabama A&M baseball got back in the win column on Friday as they defeated Prairie View A&M, 13-1, at Maestri Field on the opening day of the Andre Dawson MLB Classic.
 
Jared Tribett (Lumberton, Miss.) drove in a game-high four runs on the day, going 2-for-3 from the plate along with scoring two runs and hitting a solo homer. Meanwhile, both Tommy Easley (Acworth, Ga.) and Mekhi Lloyd (Decatur, Ga.) also earned a pair of hits on the day, while eight different players scored runs in the contest.
 
The Bulldogs got on the board in the second with a solo homer from Tribett to open the frame. A&M broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning that included RBI singles from Chevalier Dorris (Raymond, Miss.) and Easley, followed by Tribett driving in two runs on a double to go up 6-1.
 
The onslaught continued in the top of the sixth, as Brycen Hammonds (Madison, Ala.) scored off a double from Lloyd, while two runs were scored off bases loaded walks. Later in the frame, Jalen Parker (Marietta, Ga.) drove in two more runs with a single before scoring the final two runs on the next at-bat in the win.
 
Jackson Hall (Jonesboro, Ark.) picked up the start on the mound and gained his first win on the year, working five full innings, allowing just three hits and a run while striking out five. Anthony Mateo (Lynn, Mass.) and Gabe Nicholson (Collierville, Tenn.) came in out of the bullpen in relief, both pitching one inning and allowing just three hits combined.

Alabama A&M will face Grambling State in day two of the Andre Dawson MLB Classic on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Maestri Field on the campus of the University of New Orleans.
