The Albany State Golden Rams Men’s Basketball team returned to post-holiday action by defeating LeMoyne-Owen 79-72.
Up until approximately midway point of the first half, the game was a back and forth affair with both teams taking turns leading, with neither team getting out by no more than two points.
Albany State would assume a four point lead, 27-23, on Tyrell Williams’ layup with 8:42 left in the half. The Golden Rams would not relinquish the advantage for the duration of the half, opening the lead up to as much as seven points before taking a 44-39 lead into halftime on Juwan High’s jumper at the first half buzzer.
Despite shooting an ice cold 29% from the floor , including 1-10 from three ,in the second half, the Golden Rams knocked down 20-24 free throws in the half which helped them to not only to hold LeMoyne off but enjoy a double-digit lead on multiple occasions, going up by twelve points on multiple occasions. LeMoyne-Owen would draw as close to within four with 10:15 remaining when Jalen Jackson converted a layup, but Albany State would push the lead back to twelve and would claim a seven point victory 79-72.
Jared Harrington lead the way for Albany State, pouring in 24 points; Tyrell Williams also played a major role, scoring 21 points, including a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line. LeMoyne-Owen was lead by 18 points from Jerry Hurt and 17 from Toriano Stokes. The win halted a six-game losing streak for the Golden Rams. The Rams return to the hardwood New Year’s Even when they will host the Dragons of Lane College.
