The Albany State Golden Rams headed to Carrollton, GA to take on the University of West Georgia Wolves and left town with their first win of the season, 26-14.
West Georgia took an early 7-0 lead on Chauncey Williams’ two-yard touchdown run.
Albany State responded on their next drive as Kelias Williams found Michael Green on a 20-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7.
After the Wolves failed to convert a 35-yard field goal attempt, the Golden Rams would claim the lead 10-7 late in the second quarter on Gabriel Ballinas’ 44-yard field goal.
Albany State would open up the scoring in the second half with a 10-play, 53-yard drive that was capped off by another Ballinas field goal, this one from 40 yards out. Ballinas’ third field goal of the day, a 46-yarder, pushed the Ram advantage to 16-7.
The Rams would stretch their lead to 23-7 on McKinley Habersham’s one-yard touchdown run.
A 94-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown pass from Willie Canleer to Tay Huff resulted in the game’s finial tally at 26-14.
The Golden Rams will look to get back to .500 when they head to Atlanta September 28 to take on Clark Atlanta University. Kickoff time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EST. West Georgia heads to Melbourne, Florida to meet up with Florida Tech. Kickoff time for that contest is 7 p.m.
