Alcorn State University women’s basketball heads to Denton, Texas for a weekend match up with the University of North Texas on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.

The last time these two teams met up was on Nov. 11, 2019 and Alcorn was defeated 67-31. However, ASU has several weapons to put up a fight in UNT Coliseum or the “Super Pit”.

The Lady Braves enter the game riding a 78-45 win over Arkansas Baptist University. In their last outing, Alcorn was led by Destiny Brown with 13 points and eight rebounds. She had help from Zy’Nyia White and Akyriale Ford with 11 points each. These will have to be in perfect harmony for ASU to put points on the board against the Mean Green. Nakia Cheatham will need a repeat of her nine-rebound night against the ABU for Alcorn to come away victorious. Currently, White leads the team in scoring averaging nine points per game while Cheatham leads in rebounding with 4.5 boards per game.

UNT comes into the contest after a 73-66 win over the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Against the Lady Golden Lions, North Texas was led by DesiRay Kernal with a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds. She was followed by Dyani Robinson with 10 points and three rebounds. Kernal is the scoring, rebounds, and steals leader for the Mean Green averaging 17.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. Alcorn will have to shut down Kernal to secure the win.
