From the Southwestern Athletic Conference: BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Shaun Doss Jr. its SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance during games played Jan. 2-4. Doss (Marion, Ark.) contributed 23 points, 13 rebounds, one block, one steal, and two assists during the Golden Lions win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday (92-52). Johnson (Indiana, Ind.) delivered an outstanding season opening performance as Alabama A&M defeated Samford in the final seconds 78-76. In 28 minutes of work he recorded career-highs of 28 points on 13-of-17 shooting along with collecting seven rebounds. Wednesday saw the SWAC men’s basketball teams take to the court and all of them came away defeated. Some, such as Texas Southern and Prairie View who fell just by 4 points to Washington State and 5 to UALR respectively while UAPB and Alcorn State were ran out of the gym by 39 points.
