Prairie View defeats Alcorn in SWAC Basketball Quarterfinals

The second seeded Prarie View A&M Panthers dispatched the seventh seed Alcorn State 87-71 last night in the opening round of the SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament. Prarie View’s J.D. Wallace and Dennis Jones recorded double-doubles, with Wallace scoring 16 points and dishing out 11 assists and Jones providing 16 points and distributing 14 assists. Claflin University wins 2018 Men’s Basketball Tournament

The Claflin University took the 2018 SIAC Men’s tournament crown by defeating Clark Atlanta University 69-61 in the championship game. It was a wire-to-wire win for Claflin, who jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the early going and never looked back, leading by as much as 13 in the first half. The Claflin University Panthers can make a claim that no other team in the SIAC, or the nation can- they have defeated the Morehouse College team this season. The Fighting Maroon Tigers were 25-2 this season and Claflin is the “2” in that record. Albany State’s run in the SIAC tournament was brought to an end by Clark-Atlanta in 57-55 in their quarterfinal matchup. Albany State came out of the gate to take an 11-2 lead. Benedict upsets Central State to advance to SIAC semifinals

The Benedict College Tigers advanced to the next round of the SIAC tournament by defeating the Central State Marauders 70-66 in overtime. From the tip, it was a hotly contested affair throughout the first half. Central State used a 7-0 run late in the first half to give them a 36-30 lead heading into halftime. Morehouse advance to SIAC semifinals with 82-75 win over Fort Valley

Earlier today the Morehouse Maroon Tigers earned a spot in the SIAC tournament semifinals with a 82-75 victory over the Fort Valley State Wildcats. The Tigers’ efforts were spread eased by Keyshawn Jacobs and Jordan Wallace, combined for 36 points of the Morehouse bench. Wallace stepped up when it mattered most, scoring 18 of his game high 23 points in the second half, knocking down 7 of his 11 shots in the game’s second stanza. Randy McClure picked a great time to have his best scoring game of the season. The sophomore guard poured in 27 points to lead the Golden Rams past the Thoroughbreds in the opening round of the SIAC tournament.
