Tennessee State’s Jalen McClendon named finalist for Buck Buchanan Award

Courtesy of Tennessee State Athletics  Tennessee State senior defensive back Jalen McClendon has been named one of 35 finalists for the 2024 Buck Buchanan Award, presented to the national defensive player of the year in Division I FCS football. The award, celebrating its 30th anniversary, was announced by Stats Perform. The honor is named after legendary defensive lineman Junious “Buck” Buchanan, who starred at Grambling State during his Hall of Fame career. Tennessee State built a big lead early and then was able to stave off a game Western Illinois team to preserve a 45-20 win.  After winning the coin toss and choosing to receive  Tennessee State got right to work, taking the opening kickoff and marching 65 yards in 6 plays that ended when CJ Evans scampered in from 15 yards to put the Tigers up 7-0.
