Campbell scored the first 34 points of the game and never looked back in a 34-7 victory over Delaware State in the 2022 finale for each team at Alumni Stadium on Saturday. Campbell quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams completed 13 of 24 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown to help the Camels halt a four-game losing streak to end the season with a 5-6 overall record.
Delaware State dropped its second in a row to also end the year at 5-6.
Hornet running back Thomas Bertrand-Hudon, playing in his final game at Alumni Stadium, rushed for a career-high 139 yards and scored Delaware State’s lone touchdown on a five-yard run with 13:59 left to play. His previous high was 137 yards vs. Norfolk State in 2019.
Campbell scored first on a 35-yard run by NaQuari Rogers to cap off a nine-play, 81-yard on the opening possession of the game.
The Camels were ahead 10-0 before scoring two second quarter touchdowns to hold a 27-0 lead at the half.
Delaware State trailed 27-0 when Campbell blocked a punt and recovered the ball in the endzone to close out its scoring.
Freshman quarterback Marqui Adams started his first game for the Hornets. He completed eight of 19 passes for 74 yards, including a lone of 47 yards to fellow rookie Rahkeem Smith.
Hornet linebacker Brooks Parker, also playing in his final game, had a team-high five tackles, including a sack and another stop behind the line of scrimmage.
