Frank Vogel broken off by Orlando Magic after two seasons

The firing of Jeff Hornacek was merely the opening salvo of the annual purging of head coaches in the NBA.

The Magic announced in a release earlier today they would not be retaining the services of head coach Frank Vogel.

Orlando brought Vogel in after his successful tenure with the Indiana Pacers, but was never able gain any footing on a turnaround, going 54-110 over his two seasons with the Magic.

“We would like to thank Frank for his contributions to the Orlando Magic,” president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said, per NBA.com. “We appreciate the sacrifices he made as head coach and certainly wish him and his family well going forward.”

G-League Raptors coach and former NBA’er Jerry Stackhouse is emerging as a potential leading candidate for the job. Since leading the 905 to the G-League title last year and getting them back to finals this year, his name has been mentioned as a potential candidate for coaching jobs.

Whomever Orlando selects will take over a team that has not seen the playoffs since 2012.
