Johnson C. Smith men’s and women’s track place sixth at CIAA Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Johnson C. Smith University wrapped up the indoor season on Monday with the women finishing sixth and the men sixth, and one individual champion crowned on the final day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships.

On the women’s side Layla Simpson placed first in the women’s 60m hurdles in the Pentathlon an individual gold and a silver in the 200-meters with a time of 8.99 seconds. She also grabbed silver in the high jump with a mark of 1.58 feet, while Jordyn Head grabbed silver in the 60-meters with a time of 7.71. Simpson finished the Pentathlon in second with a score of 2,798.

In field events, Ja’Qun Wilkins scored points in two different events including first in the triple jump at 14.66m meters. He finished second in the long jump (7.35 meters) while Jorde Wilson finished third in the triple jump with a clearance of 14.51 meters.
