Karl-Anthony Towns and the New York Knicks have hit a standstill in contract-extension negotiations.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Vincent Goodwill, talks between the Knicks and their All-Star center have “stagnated,” with an agreement considered unlikely as New York prepares to open training camp

Towns is eligible for a four-year extension worth up to $276 million, but the two sides have not made significant progress recently after spending much of the offseason discussing a potential deal.
The situation comes as the Knicks prepare to defend their NBA championship. Towns played a major role in New York’s title run, averaging 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 55% during the playoffs.

Importantly, a stalled deal does not mean Towns cannot remain in New York. The sides can continue negotiating during the season, and Towns could still sign an extension later.
For now, however, the Knicks head toward training camp without long-term clarity surrounding one of the most important pieces of their championship roster.
