Veteran forward Kevin Love reportedly wants to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Dave McMenamin, a move that would reunite him with longtime teammate and close friend LeBron James.
The only obstacle is Philadelphia’s roster. The 76ers must waive or trade a player to create an open roster spot before they can sign Love ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.
Love, a five-time All-Star and 2016 NBA champion, remains one of the NBA’s most accomplished veterans. While he’s no longer the centerpiece he was during his prime with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers, he still provides valuable floor spacing, rebounding, veteran leadership, and championship experience.
If Philadelphia is able to create room, Love would reunite with James, with whom he spent four seasons in Cleveland. The duo helped deliver the Cavaliers’ historic 2016 NBA championship, overcoming a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors, and reached four consecutive NBA Finals together.
With James already in Philadelphia, adding Love would give the 76ers another experienced veteran as they pursue a championship while also allowing two longtime friends and former champions the opportunity to close out their careers on the same team.
Whether the Sixers make the necessary roster move remains to be seen, but Love’s reported interest makes Philadelphia one of the most intriguing potential landing spots as training camp approaches.
