BOWIE, MD — Just days before Thanksgiving, Miles Griswoldand Ke’Yon Torain of the Bowie State football team volunteered with the Bowie State University Nutrition Lounge by supporting the Washington Commanders Harvest Feast at FedEx Field. The partnership was through the Bowie State Nutrition Lounge and Cigna Healthcare.

Both Griswold and Torain volunteered by helping hand out out meals at FedEx Field which was apart of FedEx, the Washington Commanders, and Cigna Healthcare’s generous donation of 25 Thanksgiving meals to the BSU community. The initiative was to help Prince George’s residents who need meals brought to them or carried to their cars. Griswold and Torain were among many volunteers who assisted in making sure that the trucks were loaded for special deliveries.

“On behalf of the Nutrition Lounge team, I wanted to express our sincere thanks to BSU Athletics and their support of Thursday’s Harvest Feast activities,” said Dr. Ina Ramos, Nutrition Lounge Manager. “Despite the rain and delayed arrival, Tuesday was a great success due in part to everyone involved!! We want to thank Dr. Breaux for greeting our partners and their volunteers and providing such gracious remarks.”

Cigna worked with the Washington Commanders and local grocery stores (Harris Teeter, Safeway) to conduct food insecurity events in the DC metro area over the next six months. The focus was on supporting food insecurity efforts at local HBCU’s, which includes the Bowie State University Nutrition Lounge (BSU-NL) and the Howard University food pantry.

“Special thanks to AmeriCorps VISTA member, Devin Cash, and student athletes, Miles Griswold and Ke’Yon Torain, who braved the rain and cold weather to assist with handing out meals at FedEx Field!”.
