CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is being recognized for making an impact away from the football field.
Sanders has been named the NFLPA’s Week 3 Community MVP after visiting two public schools in East Cleveland and donating 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to students.
The community initiative took place Sept. 22 at Caledonia Elementary School and Kirk Middle School, where Sanders spent time with students, handed out backpacks, signed autographs and shared encouragement about the importance of education and attendance.
The students also got to enjoy a celebration featuring pizza and ice cream hosted by Sanders.
The backpacks featured Sanders’ Legendary 2 logo and included essential school supplies designed to help students get the school year started. The visit also coincided with September’s Attendance Awareness Month, giving Sanders an opportunity to encourage students to continue showing up and participating in their education.
“What matters most is those kids knowing they are seen, they are heard and they are felt.”
Sanders said being named Community MVP means a lot to him and emphasized that the goal was to give the students additional motivation to keep showing up.
NFLPA Donates $10,000 to Sanders’ Foundation
The NFLPA is also putting its money behind Sanders’ community work.
In honor of Sanders being selected as the Week 3 Community MVP, the union announced that it will make a $10,000 donation to his Legendary Impact Foundation.
The foundation focuses on supporting young people and families through initiatives including youth football camps, school-supply programs and community support.
Sanders has continued his community efforts since joining the Browns. During the offseason, he hosted a free youth football camp for Ohio children, while last year he organized the Garden Valley Fun Fest after a fire displaced more than 100 residents at a Cleveland-area apartment complex.
