Norfolk State University claimed their programs fourth consecutive MEAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship Title on Monday evening at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
The Norfolk State Spartans collected 202 team points to secure the 2025 MEAC title. Howard University finished second with 106 team points, while Coppin State placed third with 82 points.
Spartans head coach Kenneth Giles was named the Outstanding Coach of the Meet.
In field events, Troy McWilliams set the tone for NSU with a gold-winning throw of 17.07m in the men’s weight throw. Isaac Haywood added to the Spartans’ success, claiming first place in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 15.52m.
On the track, Yourie Lawrence-Clarke of Maryland Eastern Shore sprinted to victory in the men’s 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 7.86 seconds. In the men’s 60m dash, Solomon Hammond of Coppin State secured the top spot with a 6.70-second finish.
Victor Jumo led the distance events for Norfolk State, taking gold in both the men’s mile run with a time of 4:11.27 and the men’s 5000-meter run, clocking in at 14:49.63. His teammate, Kendrick Winfield, dominated the sprints, winning both the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 46.23 seconds and the men’s 200-meter dash in 20.66 seconds. Asa Francis of Coppin State won the men’s 800-meter run, clocking 1:52.77.
The championships concluded with the final event of the day the men’s 4×400 meter relay, where Norfolk State powered through to victory with a new championship meet record time of 3:08.66, securing the Spartans’ fourth title in four years.
Victor Jumo of Norfolk State was named the 2025 MEAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Outstanding Runner of the Meet.
Michael Hopkins of South Carolina State was named the 2025 MEAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet after scoring 18 points.
The top three finishers in each event were named All-MEAC.
