WASHINGTON, D.C. – Juwan Carter broke the school record for consecutive completions on the way to a 332-yard day passing and Cameryn Brent rushed for two touchdowns, including the clinching score with less than two minutes left, as Norfolk State won its fifth straight game, 45-31, over Howard on Saturday at Greene Stadium.
Carter completed 26 of 29 passes and one score to carry the Spartans (5-2, 1-0 MEAC) to their fifth win in a row, their longest winning streak since 2011. He completed a school-record 21 straight passes at one point. Brent rushed 10 times for 99 yards and two TDs, both in the fourth quarter. His 57-yard scoring burst with 1:33 remaining helped finish off the Bison (2-5, 1-1), who had gotten within seven after trailing 28-3 in the third quarter.
NSU finished with 535 yards of total offense, 203 rushing and 332 through the air. Carter completed passes to 10 different wide receivers en route to his second 300-yard passing day of the year. Justin Smith was his favorite target – Smith tallied career highs with seven receptions for 147 yards.
Carter’s 89.7 percent completion rate Saturday is the second-best in school history, trailing only Chris Walley’s 90.9 (20-of-22) set against Morgan State in 2010.
Defensively, Anderson posted a career-best eight tackles, one for loss. Toler and R.J. Coles added six apiece and De’Shaan Dixon had two sacks.
North Carolina Central 28, Morgan State 17
BALTIMORE, Md. – North Carolina Central University used a strong second half and a four-touchdown performance by sophomore quarterback Davius Richard to spoil Morgan State’s homecoming with a 28-17 road victory over the Bears inside Hughes Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Morgan State held a 10-7 advantage at halftime, but the Eagles posted 267 of their 415 yards of total offense after intermission and scored touchdowns on three consecutive second-half possessions to earn a win in their conference opener.
Richard, who ended the day with 242 yards on 16-for-20 passes, completed 9 of 10 throws in the second half for 180 yards and three touchdowns. He distributed the ball to eight different Eagles, while also rushing for 49 yards.
Linebacker Noah Rainbow-Douglas topped NCCU with 10 tackles, including 2.0 stops for a loss with a sack, along with a pass break-up. Fellow linebacker Cole Williams added eight takedowns, while safety Manny Smith contributed six stops, and cornerback JaJuan Hudson tallied five tackles and a pair of pass break-ups.

South Carolina State 13, Delaware State 7
DOVER, Del. — Redshirt sophomore Shaquan Davis finished with four catches for 114-yards, while quarterback Corey Fields, Jr. threw 15-of-30 for 208-yards to lead South Carolina State to a 13-7 win over Delaware State Saturday at Alumni Stadium.
Despite the win, it was a tough defensive battle on both sides of the ball with Hornets finishing with 244-yards total offense and the Bulldogs 235 on the day.
Freshman kicker Gavin Zimmerman put South Carolina State on the board early with back-to-back field goals of 24 and 22 yards to give the Bulldogs and 6-0 lead at the 8:55 mark in the second quarter.
Jablonski Green led the charge on defense with seven tackles and three TFL, while Octaveon Minter added six tackles along with two sacks on the day. Sophomore defensive lineman Patrick Godbolt added five tackles for loss in the win.
