The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Shedeur Sanders, Aubrey Miller Jr. and Sy’veon Wilkerson along with Texas Southern’s Richard Garcia III its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played this past week of competition.
Offensive- Shedeur Sanders| Quarterback | Jackson State University
Sanders accounted for a career-high six touchdowns (four passing/two rushing) during Jackson State’s 66-24 win over Grambling State. He completed 22-of-34 passes for 357 yards. Sanders threw touchdown passes of 7, 26, 86, and 23 yards to go along with touchdown runs of 1 and 15 yards.
Defensive- Aubrey Miller Jr| Linebacker| Jackson State University
Miller contributed eight tackles, one forced fumble, one pass breakup, and one quarterback hurry against Grambling State this past weekend. His forced fumble on Grambling State’s first drive of the game led to a turnover and the first JSU touchdown of the contest.
Specialist- Richard Garcia | Punter| Texas Southern University
was a key contributor for Texas Southern on Saturday as the Tigers defeated Southern 24-0. He averaged 46.2 yards on five punts with a long of 57 yards highlighted by two punts over 50-plus yards. Garcia also went 1-of-2 on field goals and made three extra point attempts.
Newcomer- Sy’veon Wilkerson | Running Back| Jackson State
Wilkerson rushed 23 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns in his first start for Jackson State. He contributed scoring runs of 3 and 11 yards while also setting season highs in carries, rushing yards, and touchdowns during Jackson State’s 66-24 win over Grambling State this past weekend.
