SIAC West Football Recap: Miles headed to third consecutive title game

FAIRFIELD, Ala. – Miles clinched the SIAC West Division title for a third consecutive year defeating in-state rival Tuskegee, 52-23, on Saturday for senior day at Sloan-Alumni Stadium.  

With the win Miles will host Albany State for the SIAC Football Championship on November 13.

For the game, the 52 points scored are the most that MC (5-4, 4-2 SIAC) has ever posted against Tuskegee (3-7, 2-4 SIAC). The win also gave the Golden Bears their second-largest margin of victory over the Golden Tigers (behind only a 43-11 win in 2003) and marks the first time that the team has won three straight against TU.

The Golden Bears led 21-17 at the break before outscoring the Golden Tigers 31-6 in the second half.

Claude Newell, Donte Edwards, and Christopher Brown powered the offense combining for four of the Miles’ seven touchdowns on the day.

Newell completed 13-of-20 pass attempts for 225 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. Edwards rushed for 114 yards on 19 carries (6.0 avg.) and two touchdowns. Brown tacked on a game high 94 yards receiving and two touchdowns on his only two receptions for the game. 

William Hardy (seven tackles, one sack), and Roosevelt Thompson (six tackles, 2.5 tackle-for-loss, 0.5 sacks) were among the producers for a Miles defense that collected five sacks.  
Malik Davis steered the Golden Tigers with 117 yards passing completing 6-of-16 pass attempts with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Latrevien O’Neal. Bryson Williams and Jerkevion Goodloe each rushed in for a touchdown. Williams led TU with three rushing attempts for 61 yards for a 20.3 average.

Tyler Brown spotlighted TU’s defense with a game high 15 tackles (7 solo), 1.5 tackle-for-loss and half a sack. Christian Johnson chipped in five tackles and an interception.
